Was watching the story on the DNC on the late news last night and mum said, "The two Johns. Are they anything like the two Ronnies?"
*not sure how many of the USers know the Two Ronnies*

***

As soon as you turn on the radio/stereo/tv, CJ starts whistling and chattering away.
And they love corn on the cob.

***

Where the fuck do all these fanfic authors (I shudder to use that expression in relation to them) get the idea that Jed desperately wanted/wants a son?
And as for the trainwreck from that idiot that I've had run-ins with...her characters are unrecognisable, the storyline is so far off the rails...and yet she has others praising her and wanting more?
It eludes me.

I was wondering whether I should have friends locked this post ;)
But that story of hers is horrific. And yet she has the hide to flame people over one wrongly spelt word or their opinion.
I don't recall one instance of the show where there's even been a hint that Jed desperately wanted a son.

I've always got the impression that Jed is perfectly happy with Abbey and the three daughters and wouldn't have it any other way.

And it's a bit of a relief I'm not the only one. Does she go around purposely trying to annoy people?
I'm calmer about her now...I think. Was to the point just seeing her name sparked panic attacks.

And yes. But I guess they buy into the society stereotyping that a man has to want a son.
Bleh.

I think she is just soooo far up her self! I am so disappointed that she moderates the yahoo list for my favourite pairing. I wanted to upload screencaps there, but she made it so only her and the moderators had access to the photos section.

I can't believe that someone with such poor writing skills can have the gall to start up a fanfiction list and then discourage other activities unrelated to writing.

Many sympathies.
I only lurk on that group and been close to bailing several times (I left the CJ/Simon list because of her).
And most of the fanfic lists encourage screencaps/other news etc.

Thankfully, she is not the moderator on the CJ/Simon list.

I've been thinking for some time now that I should unsubscribe from many of my lists. As someone who doesn't write very much there doesn't seem to be a place for me on fanfic lists and much of the fiction that is posted isn't worth the read. I'm afraid, yahoo has become the place for the novice to post.

I think it is active discussion, the regular posting of items of interest such as photos and news that keep a yahoo group going strong. Just look at the CJ/Toby group.

I don't whether it was about that, or because I had the audacity to call her on her childish behaviour (flaming, yelling at the spammers even though she admitted that she knew they weren't there to listen (then why the fuck yell at them to just give us another idiot to yell at)).
She's apparently in her early 20s, acts more like a 10 year old.
I'v managed to keep under the radar on the CJ/Ron list, but I do definitely keep thinking I should leave it.

He was asked, once. Somebody had written a book alleging, among other things, that he wore special underwear in an effort to conceive a male child, and poor C.J. had to ask him about it. He denied it, of course.

Oh, that stupid book with all the mistakes?

I just don't see him thinking he missed out on anything. And as for these stories which has Abbey deciding he wants a son and asking CJ to have it...that's so not Abbey. If Jed ever complained about not having a son she'd be more likely to tell him to grow up and be thankful for what he has got.
They have no feeling for the characters.

Haven't seen that one, but it's a particularly weird concept given C.J.'s age and Abbey's profession. She'd know better.

Mallory, maybe, or possibly Zoey.

Now see what you've done?
*drowns misshappen plot bunnies and buries them DEEP*

As for the president, I can almost see justification, in that he's pretty much adopted Josh and Charlie (as well as C.J., which works against the theory). I don't think he'd ever admit it, though, and he certainly wouldn't do anything to make it public knowledge.

I'm reading a piece now where an illegitimate son of Jed's, conceived before his marriage and born without his knowledge, shows up and causes Abbie all sorts of angst along these lines. It doesn't require too much suspension of disbelief.

Bury them very deep!

It stands to reason his staff would be like his kids, and they're mostly male. That's just the reality.

I just loathe the whole 'He must want a son' idea. It's so stereotyped, up there with every woman wants a baby.
ANd the added problem is that the majority of people who try to write these storylines can't write. Only a very precious few would be able to pull them off.

I've had a run-in or two with the darling 'writer' you've mentioned, and I know of a few others who feel the same as I do - my skin crawls when something from her appears in my inbox and inevitably I have the urge to throw something at my screen.

I make an effort to read everything, though her stories are lost on me. I read this latest one out thanks to that train-wreck mentality that seems to strike me so early in the morning and it was atrocious. Not even just bad, but atrocious. Still, I can usually get through 'bad' fic and shrug it off as 'just not my tastes' but when the author so clearly thinks they're Shakespeare incarnate I get tempermental.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you're definitely not alone (and as evidenced, there are many more of us who feel repulsion by her fic) and those people who praise her talents...well, look at the source of the praise and you'll understand. ;)

You know, it's made me feel a lot better to know I'm not alone. Because a while ago I was at the point of thinking I was the problem.

It isn't just that she is an atrocious 'writer'. It's her whole general attitude. In some circles I'm sure she'd be labelled a troll.

Seriously considering leaving that list...I've culled a few she's been heavily involved in, funnily enough they're the ones with virtually only badfic.

In the past I've left lists due to members/mods and I've realized that depending on the circumstances, it really is iffy as to how well it turns out...

Major lists in the fandom I find are my major source of fic (I have a hard time finding fic I've not read on the websites I know of) so to leave would be a huge disappointment to me. But I do understand why you'd want to leave the group. She's certainly made me feel reluctant to ever post again (unfortunately) just because of the mood she's imposed on the list. *sigh*

Well, if you leave you'll be missed, but we certainly couldn't fault you for escaping.

well, if you feedback at all it would be a loss, because there are certainly too few people feedbacking - I'm guilty of not doing it enough, which is a habit I'm trying to break, but so far with little luck.

What does she have against people at the CJ/Danny, 'cause that's where she and I butted heads, and I have to say she was very... unpleasant.

Oh well... Try to stay positive-she's the crazy one, not you.

She was one of the one. Between her annoyingness and the rudeness I was getting from Lauren over my views, it just wasn't worth going to the list. Plus, the majority of the fanfic I read anymore comes from you, Athena and Writer so I know where to find the stories if I want to read them. And the feedback I get comes from the three same people so *shrugs* It's better for me emotionally to read and post here on LJ than it is to go to the list. It's not like anyone there has noticed.

As for fic authors who get praised when not really deserving it? I see that constantly, and the people who do the praising haven't read anything good enough to compare against it. That or they're so starved for any fic that they'll praise even the bad writers to have more. ;P

No idea who the two Ronnies are. But the two Johns makes me think of the kind that get arrested on Law & Order SVU. LOL!

The only possible canon source for Jed wanting a son is that ridiculous tell-all book that some WH reporter wrote - which brought about that hilarious scene in which CJ read a quote about Jed's underwear and we see them exchange those priceless expressions!

*sighs* Is there more garbage on the list today? Now I'm dreading going there... As for the praise she gets, my guesses are 1) she writes fluff and that's what people like and/or 2) a bunch of them signed onto the list because they were ALREADY her friends and that's why they give feedback to no one but her.

Just my personal opinion...

Date: 2004-07-30 08:24 pm (UTC)

I don't think they'd be her friends. I think there might be a third group out there that are intimidated by very good well constructed writing. They know they could never achieve similar, so they tend to praise people that they think are at their own level.

I notice those writers who get a lot a feed back on the lists tend to be the ones who are able to strike a happy balance between writing the non-serious, fluff and something that can be considered well constructed because they appeal to writers at several levels.

Just my theory!

Yep, that's the one...and the way she's defending her idea.
It's terrible, and for someone who jumps on other people's spelling mistakes, I've noticed at least a couple in hers. And the characterisation makes no sense apart from being a crappy storyline.
Totally eludes.
