I'm a very slow reader, but a few Yuletide recs:

Frasier/Supernatural:
Guns 'n' Neuroses - Niles and Frasier, hunters of the supernatural. - Beyond brilliant and hilarious and something I would never have imagined but it works!

If there was one aspect of the job that the Crane brothers had down to a science, it was the maintenance of the necessary tools; after all, they had seasoned crêpe pans season after season. And caring for a knife, they reasoned, accurately, was not so very different from keeping an épée in good working order.

Homicide: Life on the Street:
Fallen - a missing Frank and Tim scene from "Crosetti". One of the best pieces of fanfic I've ever read, voices are pitch perfect and it fits seamlessly into the episode (which is in the top 5 of my favourite episodes from any show ever).

Medium:
A Very Dubois Christmas - oh, Joe! There isn't enough Joe stories and Joe shopping for his psychic girls is just gorgeous.

Life:
All Fall Down - Rachel after Charlie sends her away for her protection. Reminds me of how much I miss his show. Lovely Rachel pov.

just what you'll say when you get home - It's Ted's turn to be the caretaker. Fabulous Ted pov.

NCIS: Los Angeles:
What's Cooking? - Great Callen and Sam voices and banter.

Conspicuous Failings - Fabulous team banter.

The Proper Care and Feeding of Subordinates - Hetty has baked and the team is scared...

A beyond gorgeous Emily Prentiss (Criminal Minds) fic - "Demonology" episode tag.

Baptism by Blood

"That person isn't me. She never was. I don't need a picture to remember her."

I haven't felt like this about a character since CJ. Emily (and Rossi) are in my head.

Best line in a House fic ever:

"The world's not ending. When we get a real diagnosis of lupus, then you can start worrying."

It's from Your Hand in Mine by [livejournal.com profile] hihoplastic, and is a wonderful long Apocalypse!fic. Amazing Cuddy and realistic House/Cuddy.

And while I'm on the Apocalypse kick, one of my favourite fics in any fandom ever - Gilmore Girls and zombies:

the sonny & cher comedy hour ended in 1974 by [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes

Anderson Cooper has a kind of nervous edge to him as he reports the news – towns out West seemingly disappearing, whatever that means, and radio calls going unanswered.

Bill O’Reilly blames gay marriage, and simultaneously, Mormon polygamists in Utah. And HBO and the television show Big Love.

Just a few recs, some old, some new:

From [livejournal.com profile] furies:

a study of motherhood in black and gray - gilmore girls, gen, emily gilmore

The Emily/Lorelai relationship is my favourite part of the show. They're both so right and both so wrong and both need to be slapped and cuddled. This is Emily is trying to understand and envying, but not knowing how to connect. They wouldn't hurt so much if there wasn't love there. A glorious story.

the hours between dawn and nothing - m*a*s*h, gen, bj, post-korea

Oh my. I rarely cry when reading, fanfic or otherwise, but there were tears and almost sobbing. So so beautiful and real and them all. Amazing.

From [livejournal.com profile] michellek:

An Incomplete Record of the Lesbian Related Conversations the Doctors at Seattle Grace Have Participated In - Grey's Anatomy, Meredith/Addison, Izzie/Addison, Izzie/Callie

Hot and funny, and I didn't want to strangle Meredith, which is amazing. And Addison, so much Addison.

From [livejournal.com profile] sangerin:

Vale - Yes, Prime Minister, Jim & Humphrey

Short and sweet and touching.

From [livejournal.com profile] musesfool

Faith Based Initiative Firefly; ensemble; gen

Mal and nuns, Jayne and nuns, nuns with...knitting! Brilliantly hilarious and yet perfectly in character.

Making my way through Yuletide fics, will rec some soon. But I have to rec this one now:

Chasing Cars (Pretender)

Apart from it being a fabulous story, I am amused by the fact that it was written by my gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] anr for my equally gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] athena4lynn. Ness meet Jen. Jen meet Ness.

And my dear Ness, I am very proud that I guessed it was by you :)

*

Dad went for a walk this morning and as per usual found someone to talk to (no matter where he goes he'll either find someone he knows (side effect of being a cop I guess) or will find a willing workman or member of the public). Bloke who lives just up the road who has a rain gauge. He said that in the storm on Friday he recorded 32mm (about 1 and a quarter inches) in half an hour.

I want me a rain gauge. I really want one of the good weather stations which transmit the date to your computer, but that's about $400-500. A rain gauge will have to do at the moment.

And today they've had nearly 3 inches of rain at the recording station at Warragamba Dam.

*

Sister and I cleaned our bedroom today. Had hoped to clean ours plus the brother's, but we got a late start because of a blackout between about 2 and 3pm. Plus we started on vacuuming the venetian blinds, but then decided they were totally grotty and ended up actually wiping them down. Then the window sill and the windows and the window track...then we got to the actual vacuuming of the carpet and moving beds and dressing tables and things out of the bottom of wardrobes... Hoping to get the other bedroom done tomorrow. Then before next week (when sister goes back to uni) need to get the parents' bedroom and the lounge/dining room done - all the carpeted areas which are too difficult now for our parents (sister does the actual pushing, I do the edges and skirting boards). The rest of the house is lino and that's easier for them or I to do, and mum wants to wash those floors. I'm going to be a little sore.

And plumber should be coming tomorrow to fix our sewer properly.

casting shadows by [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant - Gorgeous Ro Laren/Deanna Troi. Just gorgeous. And mostly gorgeous Ro (I had quite the thing for Michelle Forbes, I followed her to several places).

Life Imitates Art by [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 - Muppets/Grey's Anatomy RPF, I kid you not. Even if you don't really know GA, you should still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. So many lines I want to quote, but go and see for yourself. So wrong and yet so right.

Fair Winds and Following Seas by [livejournal.com profile] iamsab - NCIS and a/the apocalypse. Perfect voices and an amazing Abby.

Everything Firefly by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool - just such love.

Pretender fic by [livejournal.com profile] juliefortune - Parker, Broots and Debbie, and Jarod. I used to know (and fangirl) her as Roxanne Longstreet Conrad, back in the glory days of The Pretender. It's been strange to trip over her again on lj. She and my gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] anr are, imho, the best in this fandom.
