Um... were we watching the same speech? Chunderous, whiny, sickeningly jingoistic and said "finally" enough times that the Chaser ought to turn it into a drinking game?
I'm not the only one who thought so. At least 3 others on my flist, my parents, my great aunt (who hates Howard and told a market research person exactly what she thought)...
If you want ungracious, Malcolm Fraser refused to call and concede defeat and then cried.
On the other hand I wasn't exactly filled with verve by Rudd's speech.
Oh, I know I'm in a minority... or else that our standards of "graciousness" have taken a heck of a beating. I've been seeing these "gracious" comments all over the place, and I'm still wondering whether my house and charis_kalos's got a special broadcast that no one else did.
And I thought Rudd's speech was great. Like I said in my entry: not at the Bartlet-esque standards of the launch, but his use of classical rhetoric just shone.
