Very dignified and gracious concession speech by John Howard. Props to him.

Um... were we watching the same speech? Chunderous, whiny, sickeningly jingoistic and said "finally" enough times that the Chaser ought to turn it into a drinking game?

I guess we have very different ears.

I'm not the only one who thought so. At least 3 others on my flist, my parents, my great aunt (who hates Howard and told a market research person exactly what she thought)...

If you want ungracious, Malcolm Fraser refused to call and concede defeat and then cried.

On the other hand I wasn't exactly filled with verve by Rudd's speech.

Oh, I know I'm in a minority... or else that our standards of "graciousness" have taken a heck of a beating. I've been seeing these "gracious" comments all over the place, and I'm still wondering whether my house and [livejournal.com profile] charis_kalos's got a special broadcast that no one else did.

And I thought Rudd's speech was great. Like I said in my entry: not at the Bartlet-esque standards of the launch, but his use of classical rhetoric just shone.

Yep, and the first time he's taken responsibility for anything.
