She closes her eyes as his words wash over her.
He kicks the end of the bed. She insists she's listening and repeats his last sentence. She doesn't tell him he was composing that section aloud in his sleep last night.
He doesn't resume his oratory, and she's about to investigate whether he's disappeared, when the mattress sags. His hands push up under her tshirt, fingertips cataloguing her ribs. He tells her to keep her eyes closed as he circles her breasts.
She knows him well enough to know he'll probably stop if she doesn't obey. And while this thing between them is, more often than not, a battle of wills, the anticipation gathering force between her thighs is louder than any objections.
She lifts her hips as he pulls down her panties, and squirms at the brush of his beard across her stomach. He spreads her legs, and she’s getting wetter with each heartbeat.
"Back in a second," he mumbles, pushing off the bed, and she thinks he must’ve forgotten the condoms. But the second evolves into a minute and her nipples are more cold than aroused.
She calls his name, receiving a noncommittal grunt, followed by the rustling of paper, in reply.

He waves his pen in the air and then taps it against the pad. "The closing--" And the words recapture his attention.
Resigning herself to second place, she says, "Read it to me."
