Margaret and David enjoyed it. 3.5 stars each. They said it was like a Saturday afternoon matinee. And David said it was *very* well written.

Buckle up for one hell of a ride from the Sydney Morning Herald.

And a 25 minute interview with Joss while he was in Sydney. I haven't watched it yet (only to check the length), as it does warn that there are spoilers.

It is okay to see Serenity without seeing all of Firefly first?

We're slowly making our way through it (watched "Bushwhacked" tonight - creepy), but we're not going to get any further before it comes out.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sangerin for pointing out this great article on Joss Whedon/Firefly from The Age:

The ladies' man

Talking about Wonder Woman made me giggle:

But will she still have the bullet-deflecting wristbands? Whedon's eyes light up. "Oh sweetie," he says. "She's going to have the wristbands and it's going to be bitching. In fact, the wristbands were probably what sealed the deal for me."

And this makes me love him even more:

Indeed, Whedon is bemused that his knack for shaping strong but convincing female characters is regarded as so exceptional. "When people say to me, 'Why are you so good at writing at women?' I say, 'Why isn't everybody?' Obviously there are differences between men and women - that's what makes it all fun. But we're all people. There's a lot of good writers who are very humanist, but still manage to kind of skip 55 per cent of the race. And I just don't get that. Not to be able to write an entire gender? To me, the question isn't how do you do it? It's how can you possibly avoid doing it?"

Still tired, even after doing nothing on the weekend, much to my annoyance. And hamburgers with extra onion, orange juice, an apple, and apple cake, in one night is not good for my digestive system. Bad pains today and left work 40 minutes early.

***

My adoration for Joss Whedon has gone into overdrive. He's in Sydney, and yesterday invited anyone in the area for a beer and a talk. [livejournal.com profile] erilyn went and her squee worthy account is here.

***

Watched Firefly episode "The Train Job". When Mal said to Kaylee about monkeys being responsible for the state of the engine room, specifically space monkeys, was that by any chance a reference to Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys? I need to see if that's on dvd...

Cool article about Serenity and Joss Whedon generally here.

Joss Whedon makes movies and television for people just like him. People for whom "culture" can encompass Shakespeare and comic books, John Ford and Stephen Sondheim, science fiction and teen melodramas. People who are obsessive but don't mind laughing at themselves too; who build their families out of friendships rather than obligations; and, well, people who like seeing small women kick butt, leaving a trail of up-ended cliches behind them.

And welcome to [livejournal.com profile] vanwasigma. I think you're the first person I've met in real life first ;) (apart from my sister).

Now have all season 6 Buffy on dvd. Watched the Once More, With Feeling featurette and skipped through to the Willow/Tara bedroom scene on the commentary because I wanted to hear what Joss had to say. And he said, "This is pornography". Hee! Still want to know how they got that past the censors.
Though he said that the willow tree line did break up the ocean theme. And he mentioned the spread beneath etc several times.
So love that scene. And that whole song, Amber lights up when she sings.

***

Heart palpitations have been bad today, and was really shakey. Pretty sure that idiot on the CJ/Danny list once again triggered it. But I'm standing beside Athena on this issue. But the thought of the idiot responding just sets my body off.

I know I'm stupid to allow her to affect me like that. And I do try to stop it, but the heart just starts pounding or jumping. Actually I've been having a lot of heart palps with no real trigger. Which worries me, this is like the bad old days of the panic attacks. I thought I'd got past that with the nausea being now pretty much situationally confined. Haven't really had the non-trigger panic attacks since the bad days about 5 years ago.

Why is it when I've got all this marking, the Muse is suddenly firing on all cylinders? Grrrr...

Why is it I can lose weight yet I've been eating well? I thought I'd lost a bit, was feeling thinner and noticed I'm a little more gaunt around the top of the chest/collar bones. Weighed myself tonight, and yep, lost about 5 pounds. You're probably thinking 5 pounds is nothing, but when my maximum weight seems to be 126 pounds (~9 stone/57 kilos) and I can't get above that, and while I'm not sickly thin, I am on the boundaries of being too slim for 5'7"...it's a pain. And just a few pounds makes a visible difference on my torso. And I never want the top of my rib cage to stand out (Rene in Chicago was terrible).

Tonight's Angel ep in Oz )

[livejournal.com profile] melwil's fault, her lj entry made me need to listen to it right now.
So adore the Buffy OMWF soundtrack. Under Your Spell, Standing, and their reprise are just so beautiful. And so much fun and sad in the other songs.
When someone says, "I have a theory", does anyone else laugh or start singing "It must be bunnies"?

The moon to the tide
I can feel you inside
I'm under your spell
Surging like the sea
Pulled to you so helplessly
I break with every swell
Lost in ecstasy
Spread beneath my willow tree

Amber so lights up during that song. So beautiful.

...your mother has watched too much West Wing when upon seeing the
Australian Governor-General being sworn in on the news, she asks what bible they were using.

No spoilers for the rest of Oz, but quite emotional after seeing the Buffy finale.
