krazykitkatONE of Australia's biggest koala colonies survived a bushfire that swept through Pilliga Nature Reserve near Coonabarabran.
Rescuers yesterday found unharmed koalas in areas burnt out three weeks ago. "They didn't find any signs of dead koalas and no injured koalas," said a Taronga Zoo spokeswoman, Danielle McGill.
She said the koalas had moved to the top of trees, had "taken their chance and waited out the fires".
