May. 28th, 2006 01:57 amI guess I should just give the con from a few weeks ago a brief mention. Wasn't a great day with my anxiety etc, so I only saw the second half and even then I was struggling.
From what my siblings said, John Billingsley (and his wife) were fabulous. And I so wanted to ask him if he had any memories from West Wing and whether he had a favourite map. Apparently he was unhappy with his second Cold Case episode, thought the storyline was ridiculous. And he hated the end of Enterprise.
They put Jewel Staite on with Jonathan Woodward (Tracey from the ep "The Message", was also in Buffy and Angel). I was disappointed. He tended to dominate. I wanted to hear about the show, but they didn't do any talk as such, just answered questions, most of which weren't related to the show (probably didn't help being the second day of the con). I didn't come out of it knowing anything new. But we did get to sing happy birthday over the phone to her mother in Canada. Jewel is lovely, but I think she looks better with a bit more weight.
I did get autographs and was able to mention to John Billingsley that he and the dog were mum's favourite things in Enterprise. He smiled and said thank you, and then asked, "In that order?" He said to say hello and thank you to mum. Talked a little with him and his wife. Strangely I got a little nervous going over to Jewel, I've generally felt pretty relaxed talking to the guests. I mentioned that I'd seen her in Da Vinci's Inquest and she laughed and said that she forgets these shows are seen everywhere.
The highlight was managing to get an autographed Spike plate to go with my autographed Giles plate (when I got the Giles plate last year, mum didn't blink at the price, just asked why I didn't get the Spike too). Mum'd been talking about it leading up the con that I might be able to get it, had bought an extra plate stand just in case, and had insisted the night before that I was to get it if they had it.
My brother spent quite a bit of money on a lovely sexy photo of the 4 girls from Firefly (and Jewel signing it was part of the price) in the auction, and didn't really want to tell mum what he paid, thinking mum would be unhappy (he has a mortgage and owes my parents and sister a bit of money), but she didn't mind at all. I love my mum :) I bought autographed photos of Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop from Gilmore Girls, the dealer came out from the US. Also bought an autographed photo of Summer Glau (scene from Serenity).
Probably the worst con I've been to :(, but it may've been the only chance to see any of the Firefly mob.

On a totally different note, you know it's a bad day when the printer at work makes you cry. Was feeling really strange on Friday. I can only describe it as feeling like I was having an allergic reaction. My skin was crawling, my eyes and nose itchy, my head was hurting, then my finger joints started hurting. Other joints joined in when I got home. Need to ask my rheumatologist about it on Tuesday. I don't know whether the symptoms are related. Add in some pms, and the 4 times the printer wouldn't spit out the manifest was just too much.
