Thank you, Sweetie :) I wanted to do an icon with Margaret O'Brien and Judy Garland doing the "Under the Bamboo Tree" dance from Meet Me in St Louis. But they're too tiny at icon size. But I love this picture of Margaret.
Wasn't she just! I've adored Margaret for so long. That photo apparently is from Music for Millions. Meet Me In St Louis has just been released on dvd in the US, 2 dvd set and apparently the restored picture and sound is glorious. Hopefully we'll get it soon.
I really like the base pictures, but the fonts could do with a little work. I'd recomend putting the anti-alias(sp??) feature on for all fonts but pixel fonts like 'small fonts' or 'pixelade' etc. Have fun experimenting.
I used anti-alias for the Moulin Rouge icon, and on the 'unicorn'. I'm beginning to think I should give up on the fonts, maybe do the base pictures and ask someone else to do the words.
Just what comes with photoshop. Pekeana has told me a site to get more, but I just don't know what ones to start with, and I can't really get anything right with the basic fonts anyway.
It looks like 'we see' either doesn't have the anti-alias switched on or is set to a smaller size than 'unicorn' at which size the font doesn't work well- I take it that it is on its own layer? Other than this, the rest of the text looks good and it is a good choice of font.
I'm the opposite to you, I can get the fonts to work but not much else in photoshop. *g* Dropshadows are great!
You're right, 'We see' isn't anti-aliased (too blurry), and it's a smaller size than 'unicorn'. I'll have a play with that icon, I was having trouble with working out how to do layers as it was.
Try experimenting with fonts like Arial and Verdana at smaller sizes and different layer styles. And also, on some fonts, it looks better to outline them with stroke.
And I guess ultimately, while other opinions are great and help me improve, ultimately I'm the one who has to like it. It's not as though anyone's ever likely to want to use the ones I make anyway.
You know, icon contests are a great way to play around with experimental things, even if they look hideousawful... Er. Even if they don't look so great.
[Like my entry for this week's allisoncontest. I think I'm going to change it, for to it sucks major monkey balls.]
