The lack of women is a pity, but this is a much deserving nomination list for Australian of the Year (I get sick and tired of celebrities and sportsmen).
* NSW: Justice Michael Kirby, 66. Justice, High Court of Australia since 1996.
* Victoria: Reverend Tim Costello AO, 50, CEO of World Vision Australia since 2004.
* Queensland: Professor Ian Frazer, 52. Director of the University of Queensland's Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research. Developed the world's first effective vaccine for cervical cancer.
* Northern Territory: Peter Fannin, 75. A botanist, conservationist, astronomer, teacher and who led the Papunya art movement.
* Tasmania: Richard Bovill, 52. A farmer who led the Fair Dinkum Food campaign.
* Western Australia: Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton, 74. Chancellor of Murdoch University.
* South Australia: Dr Bill Griggs, 48. Director of Trauma Services at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
* ACT: Dr Geoffrey Lancaster, 51. Pianist and Associate Professor, Australian National University, School of Music, Faculty of Arts.
Fingers crossed for Justice Kirby or Professor Frazer.
