For the last year in particular, I've been in a love/hate relationship with my country.
But this makes me proud:

Australians have donated almost $20 million to help Asia's tsunami victims, as aid agencies began responding to the enormity of the crisis in Indonesia.

Public donations to 15 fundraising campaigns for the victims of the catastrophe approached the $20 million mark.

That is in addition to the $35 million and other forms of aid the Australian government has committed.

A growing number of Australian humanitarian workers and doctors are being deployed to disaster-struck countries.

The Australian Red Cross has $10.8 million available for distribution since appeals opened on Sunday.

World Vision Australia has now raised $5.5 million and CARE Australia has collected $2.8 million.

And when you consider that the Red Cross's initial target was $8 million internationally.
We put into the Red Cross today.
