I'm very new and not good at icon making. But I thought I'd have a go at an Allison one.



Any constructive criticism or thoughts?

nice framing. I wouldn't use that font style, but that's me. Add a 1-pixel black or green border to close the image in.

Haven't tried borders before. Will have a go.
What font styles do you prefer? I have a very limited selection in Paint Shop Pro. I should try installing Photoshop.

The picture seems a little too sharp -- try some variation of a blur over it. Maybe a color overlay of some kind, as well to soften it a little. [E-mail me if you're not sure what I'm talking abiut and I can give you some help.]

I'd change the font color to something like, say, her lipstick color? Or something that's in the actual photo color-wise. Just because white text tends to look funky. ;-)

Change of font, too, maybe? A bitmap/pixel font would look nice.

Weirdly enough, it was blurry originally, and I'd sharpened it.
I'm not having much luck in the font department.

Yay! It looks much better with not so sharp edges -- sharp edges tend to denote male features, whereas blur equates with female curvatures. [See, those art classes weren't all wasted! HA!]

:eyes boggle: I don't know where to start at the font site.
What about the colour of the font? Is that better?

What program do you use? I'm using Paint Shop Pro, I've got Photoshop here on cd, is it better?

The color of the font is better -- it seemed more natural with the icon, seeing as how it was used elsewhere in the icon.

I use Photoshop 6.0 -- I'm getting to the point where I pretty much know what I'm doing with it, but each new icon is a new adventure.

I'd change the font to a script type, and I'd select a light shade from AJ's hair. If you don't want to change the font, then may I suggest adding an outline around the text and then experiment with the blend options.

I'd also experiment with the hue. With the icon I'm using now I selected a magenta hue to accentuate MH's blue eyes.
