At least I finally have confirmation of the fact that he can't add. Based on
spoilers I'd been wondering.
Sent this email to the reporter:
Dear Lynn Elber,
I just read your article ''The West Wing' eyes GOP successor for Bartlet',
which confirmed to me my suspicions that John Wells can't add.
In your article, he states:
"We were a year and a half into the administration when we started the
show," Wells said of the NBC drama entering its sixth season. "We have term
limits in this country and so, on our electoral schedule, Bartlet's second
term would end a year from this coming January."
Mr Wells should go back and actually watch the show, because that is
incorrect.
The show started approximately 9 months into the administration, as the
midterm elections occurred in episode 3 of season 2, i.e., October 2000.
Along with the general election occurring during season 4, i.e., November
2002, this means that Bartlet was elected in Nov 1998.
And hence his second term will end January 2007.
I don't know whether Mr Wells truly is confused, or whether he's trying to
confuse us, but the fans of the show will not be pleased that a year is
being trimmed from the Bartlet administration.
If you talk to Mr Wells again, could you please question him about this
large inconsistency.
Thank you for your time etc...
