Note to Kat: stay away from any news site Murdoch related. The breath-taking ignorance and bigotry just makes you mad.

Honestly, if I see one more idiot type, "if you're earning less than $100k, than you're a drain on society and not trying hard enough,", I'm going to explode and make a mess.

I can't find recent income distribution tables, but considering the mean income was ~$55k last time I heard, and the median is below that, just what %age of the population is earning over $100k??? Not very large.

And considering the poor spelling and punctuation of the majority of posts, and their complete inability to understand how even income tax works, I'd like to know how they're earning that much.

Wow. People are -- yeah, you know, I don't even have a word for what people are.

And all those poor women earning over $150K who now won't be able to afford to have a baby, because missing out on that $9700 is going to make all the difference *eye roll*

Honestly, these people seem to think that a huge number of people are earning over $100K and are supporting us dole bludgers. They also think that they're paying 48% of their income in tax.

I got so mad on Friday over the mean testing of the 30% health rebate. It should have always been means tested. I'm earning ~$14000 a year, I have private health insurance, as do my parents who are on ~$44k. Yet an individual earning over $74K can't afford an extra $100-200 a year? A couple on over $250K can't afford an extra $1000 or so a year? They should really try budgeting if they can't.

But the Coalition wanted to continue making those earning $55-74K (?) pay the surcharge...what hypocrisy. There isn't going to be a mass exit from private health, the surcharge is still probably going to be more than what the insurance costs them.

Their rich daddies got them jobs after bribing their way through college. Some guys even get to be president of the United States that way.

Charming, so let's see what happens to society if everyone who earns less then that amount decides to stop working (like, say me). We hardly work hard enough, so surely society won't miss us.

Good idea. It would close down the schools, hospitals, police, shopping centres, public transport, restaurants, government etc etc. These high income earners wouldn't have anyone to clean their offices or take away their garbage, or repair their electricity/water, or deliver their take out, or dry clean their suit, or look after their kids.

I really don't know what world these idiots over on news.com.au are living in. The way they carry on you'd think they were all working 80 hours per week and earning a mint.

I'm so tired of the attitude that if you aren't earning big money, then you're nothing.

These are the kinds of noises overprivileged, overpaid people who still have massive entitlement issues make in a vain effort to justify themselves.
