That's What She Said: 5 Quotes That Still Resonate
1. "The job's fucked!"
Phoenix - the last words of the Australian police drama, which is probably the best tv drama I've ever seen. Damn it, ABC, put it out on dvd!
2. "I didn't realize babies come with hats. You guys crack me up. You don't have jobs. You can't walk or speak the language. You don't have a dollar in your pockets but you got yourselves a hat so everything's fine. I don't want to alarm you or anything, but I'm Dad. And for you, son - for you - this will be the last time I pass the buck, but I think it should be clear from the get-go that it was Mom who named you Huckleberry. I guess she was feeling like life doesn't present enough challenges to overcome on its own. And, honey, you've got a name now, too. Your mom and I named you after an incredibly brave woman, really not all that much older than you. Your name is Molly. Huck and Molly. So, what do I do? Well, you're going to need food and clothes and doctors and dentists and there's that. And should you have any questions along the way..."
- Toby (The West Wing)
3. Anya: "Are they gonna cut the body open?"
Willow: "Oh my God! Would you just... stop talking? Just... shut your mouth! Please!"
Anya: "What am I doing?"
Willow: "How can you act like that?"
Anya: "Am I supposed to be changing my clothes a lot? Is that the helpful thing to do?"
Xander: "Guys—"
Willow: "The way you behave—"
Anya: "Nobody will tell me."
Willow: "Because it's not okay for you to be asking these things!"
Anya (crying): "But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why. (She puts her hand over her face, crying.)"
Willow (after a long pause): "We don't know... how it works... why."
- Buffy *sob*
4. "Look, I agree with democracy passionately. It's just that sometimes you've got to deal with idiots. Apart from that it works perfectly."
- Mayor Col Dunkley (Grass Roots) - a (too real) comedy about local government
5. "I believe that when we leave a place a part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in these halls, when it is quiet and just listen. After a while you will hear the echoes of all of our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone, our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit that the part of me that is going will very much miss the part of you that is staying."
- G'Kar (Babylon 5) - since the deaths of Andreas and Rick, this breaks me.

Date: 2008-01-25 03:40 pm (UTC)And of course, the "was it good for you too" conversation after. Had that phone not rung ... their relationship could have gone in a WHOLE different direction.
I need to play with this meme now too ... *grins*

Date: 2008-01-25 03:55 pm (UTC)And to the West Wing quote, I will add the moment when Toby goes back to the White House and tearfully tells everyone that the twins have been born, and separately CJ goes to him and puts her hand over her heart, and simply says, "Toby..." and he nods. So much said with so very little. Oh, how that gets to me!
I may have to fill out this meme, Kat. I don't usually take the time to do them, but yours is really good. :)
(And abso-friggin'-lutely on the Connor front. Get that kid outta there. The whole Cordy/Connor thing, in fact. Ew. Ridiculous.)

YES. That's exactly it; the hands just slay me every time.

Will have to make a choice at some stage where I buy up to. I didn't watch the last few years (though have the finale on tape). Though I did catch the last year or so on repeats a few years ago and fell in love with Anna and Tom.
