Dad picked me up at work about 6.45pm and said that we had a blackout at home since 5.30pm. Started as a brownout (we had another one a few months ago - so strange) and then totally gone. And I'm thinking there's too many things on tv to record tonight.
As we approached home some places that had been dark on his way out now had light. Part way out our main road we found the border between light and dark, the electricity company truck was there and seemed to be checking and turning on each segment along the road, trying to find the fault. We thought it wouldn't be long before they got to us.
Not long after there was a tiny moment of power, enough to turn the answering machine and couple of other things on, but then it disappeared. Later on it happened again. Went and had a bath, another moment of power, enough to bring everything on, but only for a second. By this time we assumed they'd found the fault near us.
Organised with one brother to tape CSI:NY, Crossing Jordan and The Inside, sister-in-law to record Numb3rs.
Power came back on fully, I said wait and counted...went out before I got to 5. Budgies weren't happy little Vegemites, fighting and trying to sit too near each other.
Came back on after 8pm. There was rejoicing. Was on for about 10 minutes and went off again. Groaning. Getting closer to taping time. Came back on. Cooked dinner very quickly and taping went forward fine.
But the cable broadband was down. Dad guessed that the blackout was the problem as the amplifiers are connected to the power lines, thought it might take a while for them to recharge. Net came back on late tonight, but the wireless network setup had imploded into nothingness. Took a while, but that's now fixed.
