Probably going to regret this, especially since it's unbetaed, but my stuff these days isn't worth anyone going to the trouble. This was pretty much all that was wrote of the failed wingswing (which was actually supposed to be CJ/Mallory - there was going to be a theme of redheads), but with a little bit of fiddling I think it works on its own as a tinyfic.

You've been on the campaign trail for five weeks when she arrives to meet him at some non-descript hotel in middle America. You know he didn't tell her of your presence from the tightening of her lips when she sees you.

Her nails dig into your arm as she says hello. She proceeds to drape herself over him at every available opportunity, fueling the rumour mill. Some of the smaller men in the team take it on themselves to show you that there are other gropers in the sea.

She knocks on your door two nights later.

"It's not going to happen, CJ," she says, her back rigid and arms folded across her chest. "Not again."

You step towards her and stroke your fingertips along her lower arm, daring her to acknowledge her body's reaction. There's a flash of desire in her eyes, but she doesn't move.

"We're trying for a baby," Andy whispers.

You hide under a smile as you grasp her hand. "I hope--good luck with that."

She doesn't meet your eyes, but her fingers tangle with yours. "I'm sorry if you came because of me--"

"No, no. Toby's just very convincing and I needed a job." You squeeze her hand before pulling away, too slowly. "Don't worry, I won't be here long. It's not as though Toby's about to break his streak."

nice Kat! that was lovely writing and a kind of horrible story told beautifully. I'll just think about CJ and Mallory living happily ever after to take away the bad taste of Andie being all "well I had sex with you though I'm married to Toby but I can't now because we're trying for a baby". Dear god, that would be upsetting!

And CJ and Mallory lived happily ever after.

Though Mallory was going to leave her for Sam, all these redheads leaving her for writers. She had more difficulty with understanding the Sam thing, because she was sure she was more capable in the sex department than him. He was more likely to read love poetry.

Now I really wish you'd drawn CJ/Andy for the wingswing. You might have been moved to give us more of a good thing. It works beautifully as it is, but I'm greedy. *g* It's yummy, and has given me a sudden craving for CJ/Andy from Toby's POV.
