Sometime this afternoon I stopped and thought, 'I feel good, awake, alive'. It was such a surprise, a strange feeling.

I got over it.

Am I alone in not feeling the mobile phone love?

I barely use my mobile. It's off 99.9% of the time, only used if I'm out and need to call home. Plus it's an older model (we believe in recycling mobiles, we get everyone else's cast offs - I don't think we've actually paid for one in years). I can't even remember how to send a sms.

But then I don't like phones generally. Used to be funny at work, we'd all look at each other and wait for someone else to answer the boss's phone. I'm now in a different area surrounded by the helpline and recruiters. Don't mind listening to them do their thing, but no way in hell I could do it.

I hate answering phones. I hate making phone calls even more. It causes anxiety.

So to me mobile phones and all the accessories are just a waste of money and a fashion that won't go away.

You are not. I have one because, well, we don't have a land line, but I tend to keep it off unless I'm making a call or expecting one (or meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] tangleofthorns). Then again, I hate talking on the phone, so this isn't a surprise to anyone I know.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates talking on the phone. I'm probably to the point of phobic about it.

We could never do without a landline, we have bad mobile reception (hilly area).

No, I'm with you. I hate my cellphone, just HATE it, hate answering it, hate being tied to it all the time, everything. But it's the only phone I have, I didn't have a land line in Chicago or here, so it's also pretty necessary, and I panic when I can't find it. And I hate the whole 'must have the new, hot phone' thing...just give me a phone that works and does the few things that I need it to do.

It's eliminated private time. I can understand the necessity when you don't have a landline, but the idea of being tied to it...and it's become a fashion accessory and really so much money is wasted on them.

As for the phones? Yeah, for the most part I'm with you. I have a phone, and its excessively convienient to call home with, and when I'm travelling to be connected with friends I'm meeting up with. But for the most part, it just sits there (on), with no one contacting me. And I'm quite happy with that.

I don't understand people who use them all the time. And it's so expensive, I pretty much won't ring people with mobiles (unless it's my immediate family). People say, oh, but it's cheaper than having a land line - I really doubt that when you consider how much most people's mobile bills seem to be.

The temptation to chuck the darn thing into a body of water is overwhelming.

Hehehe!

Apart from needing to contact immediate family, I refuse to call mobiles. It's too expensive. And I find it very hard to believe it's cheaper than having a land line, which they claim.

And really, coverage isn't great. Especially in the hilly areas of Sydney.

And that's also beside the point of loss of private time.

Exactly!

I feel like I'm being kept on a leash with it! It was supposed to be for emergencies only but I frequently get called and asked "where are you?"

I hate my phone, it is with me and on most of the time but that is because I'm used to no havaing landline when I'm away from home. I hate everything about phones, mobile or otherwise.

Phones are evil!

I can understand the need when you don't have a landline and you're moving around. But I don't understand people giving up a landline for mobile. I find it very difficult to believe it's cheaper. Plus I tend to avoid calling mobiles because it's expensive for me.

I would die without my phone. Its on my person 24/7. I even sleep with it under my pillow.

You don't feel a loss of private time/privacy, of always being within reach?

Wonder whether it's something to do with age/having grown up with it as part of the "norm". Probably personality too, I never liked the phone when I was a teenager either.

Well for me my friends with whom I communicate with from said phone are the most important thing in my life. We always have to be in touch with each other. I guess in a way it is part of growing up with one.
