And of course it wasn't published. The one that was:

I'd like to know how Danna Vale found out that there are 100,000 abortions performed each year. Medicare does not differentiate miscarriages from abortions.

Obviously I don't know how to write something publishable. At least the point was published.

Newspapers don't publish anything they can't edit to the point of unrecognizability. Maybe that was yours? 0=)

I send crap in all the time and I never get published either. I think mine are way too long for the bites they want.

Anyway. Feeling your pain. ::schnugs::

I don't summarise well...it's just annoying that I've had several letters published in the tabloid, but i can't get anything in the Herald, which is a pretty top publication.

I think [livejournal.com profile] sternel is right. I think it was length, not intelligence, or publishability. To them, publishability is how short or how "sensational" they can make it.

I liked your reply better!

I like supporting my argument with facts and figures. And I've never been able to summarise.

Thanks.

Bloody hell yours was 10 times better. They're not even really making a proper point.

I want to be published in the SMH dammit! I've had several published in the Daily Telegraph over the years.

Thank you, Hon.

I think your first sentence was very powerful but this other person got to the crux of the matter without having to draw attention to the statistics which makes for easier reading!

It must be my science/debating background: support your argument with facts and figures. And I thought that was the type of thing that the SMH wanted.

I agree with you but I just thought in this case the figures were not really needed. Just trying to offer a bit of constuctive critism. I wonder if your letter even got read? they must have recieved a lot about this!

Yeah, you're right.

I'd just like to one day get a letter published in the SMH. It would more than equal the at least 2 I've had published in the Telegraph.

I'm sure that day is going to come very soon :)

I get a big thrill when I see someone I know get a letter published. I've seen one of my old lecturers get a couple of letters published on harm minimization and heroin usage.
