Interesting and thought provoking articles in the editorial section of the SMH:

A no man's land in our ethnic mix - We are mostly a tolerant society, except when alienation meets ignorance

Name-calling casts a wide, unjustified net, with Muslims in the haul - Religion cops the blame but it's cultural attitudes which should be called into question

Where the 'other' fears to tread - Beaches have unwritten rules that not everyone knows

The vicious underbelly of urban culture - Violence in Sydney and Paris exposes the ugly machismo that drives society

Unsurprisingly, the SMH didn't print my letter (I'm obviously not up to their standard), not sure whether the Daily Telegraph did:

Congratulations to the mob at Cronulla for showing that you are worse than those you are complaining about. Vilifying an entire ethnicity on the basis of the actions of a few young idiots (there are idiots in all suburbs and all races as you have proven), as well as attacking individuals, police and other emergency workers, really demonstrates your level of intelligence. And how dare you use the flag or 'Aussie' to showcase your bigotry.

I've had a lot of letters not printed myself. It seems that you need to get them in within hours or you have no shot; and on a thing like this especially they'll likely have thousands pouring in.

Regardless? Well, well stated.

SMH is the premiere paper, and I'm not up to their standard. I've had a few published over hte years in the Telegraph, which is the tabloid.
