krazykitkat: (celebration (WW))
For the last while I've been sitting in the bath watching dad's new little portable tv (watching my political boyfriend, Antony Green). I'm shaking, there's been tears...

LABOR'S done it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over 20 seat majority by the look of it, and some of the seat swings have been extraordinary.

And everything's crossed for Maxine McKew. Please hold on! Kerry O'Brien - "A swing to the ABC...*laughter* it was bound to happen sometime tonight."

In my own seat, just over 4% swing against Ruddock. Still safe as houses, but I won't be surprised if he retires before too long.

History tonight. I think it may be one of the largest swings. And John Howard may be only the second Prime Minister to lose his own seat.

Looks like the Senate could still be problematic, or just plain confusing...

Approx figures for today are 18 to Labor, 18 to Coalition, 3 to Greens (though Kerry Nettle lost her seat in NSW) and 1 to independent. Looks like Labor picked up most of the Democrat seats.

Combining with the continuing senators means:
Coalition - 37
Labor - 32
Greens - 5
Family First - 1
Independent - 1

Very dignified and gracious concession speech by John Howard. Props to him.
