West Wing: Dogs of War

Pretty much typed while I watched.
Cloak and dagger...where's Sydney and Vaughan?
I've always quite liked Amy. Plus it's nice to see a familiar face in an episode where new people kept popping up. Go away, Wellsian creations. Though Angela Blake was more useful than Ryan (obviously supposed to be eye candy, though he looks about 12 - give me Danny back).
Toby with baby. And no wonder Andi asked whether he could get his money back. Think lack of communication might have been a reason for the breakdown of their marriage?
John Spencer did a really good job again.
Direction hasn't bugged me as much as last week. In fact I can't think of anything that annoyed me.
Ryan's fall :eye roll: Didn't work at all for me. Please, someone tread on him so he doesn't get back up...damn. And the dialogue - blah blah fishcakes. Dialogue for the sake of something being said, rather than meaning anything.
I found the politics reasonably interesting. The worry whether the Republicans were positioning themselves etc.
Fitz is retiring. *sniff*
Did anyone else have a feeling that they were 5 minutes from the end and thought, "Damn, we need to find Zoey this ep. Let's do it right now."?
Surely, they wouldn't check for signs of sexual assault in the back of an ambulance. She should've been taken straight to the hospital and then Jed et al would've met them there. I cannot see the Secret Service allowing Jed et al to go out to the scene.
Nice red on CJ.
Abbey's still unhappy with Jed. I got that from the last shot *I'm in a sarcastic mood tonight*
And it's all over. A bit anticlimactic (I'm not against weather).
Apart from Ryan and how Zoey was found, I think this will be more rewatchable than the last episode (7A etc plummeted in my esteem during the second watch, the direction got worse).
ETA: And on second thought, I think this episode is probably going to disintegrate on second viewing. There was a lot of silence, too much Ryan...and I can't think of one memorable line. The music is gone. But at least the camera was steady. And while many people preferred the first ep and hated this one, I think I like this one more. But that may just be my relief at not needing motion sickness tablets.
Double ETA: Bit slow tonight, things are just dawning on me. Not a lot happened in this episode (they needed Ryan for filler). And yet the whole Zoey rescue et al was crammed into the last few minutes?
Very bad pacing.
Ok, the episode is starting to fall apart. Maybe it's best I just half watch and not think.

Date: 2004-12-13 05:42 pm (UTC)Yes, the finding Zoey thing was way too abrupt and not handled realistically at all.

Date: 2004-12-14 11:24 am (UTC)It's so funny that you'd say that, because when I first saw it, I checked to see if I'd accidentally changed the channel to an old ep of TXF... Only if it *had* been TXF, that scene would have made more sense than it did.

Date: 2004-12-13 05:43 pm (UTC)I first saw this episode about 9 monhs ago and it seemed okay and then I watched it tonight and the pacing was so dreadful that it was hard not to hit fast forward on the remote.

Date: 2004-12-13 08:45 pm (UTC)I got lost on the finding Zoe thing. The direction there was annoying, because again I wanted to see her sisters and all I caught was a flash of hair.
So many lost opportunities for good lines.

Date: 2004-12-14 06:08 am (UTC)Everyone's lost on the finding Zoey. It's just a rushed thoughtless ending.
And Ryan is going to annoy me so damn much.

Date: 2004-12-14 05:06 am (UTC)I don't know why they bothered to bring in Liz and Ellie if they weren't going to make use of them.
And I'm sorry, how exactly did they locate Zoey????? A phone call from who knows who managed to tip them off puhlease!
Painfully obvious that the writers have no idea how to write this show or these characters - consolation is that I know it gets better - eventually

Date: 2004-12-14 06:12 am (UTC)I guess the reason I still feel more warm to it than 7A is that the first ep just had too many directing things that annoyed me to hell.
But yeah, how come can so many fanfic writers get closer to the characters than the show writers? Even some of the badfic writers are closer on the dialogue.
