Oh, Mentalist, why did you have to go there ("Red John's Friends")? Why did you have to make Red John this super-power serial killer with an evil laugh? I spent the second half of the episode rolling my eyes.

Red John better now fade into the background with only the occasional mention, otherwise I will be forced to throw things at the tv and curse your de-evolution to a CSI franchise.

As for you, SVU, pull up your socks, dial down the melodrama, and please get rid of the new ADA who has joined Michael Michele in the acting forest.

Dear Mothership, I've always loved you, but with season 18 I'm infatuated again. I didn't think it was scientifically possible. And you're forcing me to rummage the interwebs for Connie/Mike fic...

Does season 10 of SVU improve? Mum and I thought the first episode was rather poor.

It felt really odd. All the characters seemed off, Elliott & Fin were caricatures of themselves. The actors seemed to be calling in their performances. The new ADA did nothing for me. The guest actors were even worse, Julie Bowen and the kid in particular.

Was it new writers? New director? Was it just us?

Or are we just tiring of the show? I found season 9 very up and down. And considering how brilliant season 18 of the original recipe was (nearly finished it), maybe SVU is looking very tired next to it.

Oh, please, Ray, come back!

Talk about inane chatter from the new "hosts". We're watching for the carols, not your breakfast patter. And we can't stand Karl. Gah!

And why oh why was it moved an hour earlier? The first hour felt like it was a dress rehearsal with the sunlight streaming in. Plus, we're not ready to sit down and watch at 8pm. We ended up recording it and watching the first half after it had finished. One benefit was that we could fastforward through the hosts and Hi-5.

Thank goodness for Marina, Silvie and Dennis.

I like David Campbell's voice, but it didn't really suit O Holy Night. The end number with Jimmy was great.

And I discovered that I've been misunderstanding The First Noel for most of my life:

The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as they lay;

I thought 'to certain' meant something like 'to reassure' where 'certain' was some archaic use of the word. I thought it was a verb, not that the angel was discriminating. My sister thinks I'm an idiot.

It's amusing watching older seasons of shows.

About a third of the way through ER season 5 dvds, and who should I spy but Ed...or was it Larry...*checks imdb*...definitely Ed (West Wing). And his wife looked familiar, very much like Lane (Gilmore Girls), but she hadn't said enough, so I wasn't sure, but imdb tells me, yes, it's Keiko Agena.

*

After being very disappointed in 2nd season of Criminal Minds (way too melodramatic and over the top, and too much of their personal lives intersecting with cases), we really enjoyed third season. And so very happy we've gone straight into 4th. We watched the premiere tonight.

*

Also watched season premiere of CSI. Expandpossible spoilers )

It's been a number of months since we watched the last 2 eps of Life first season.

Have vague recollections of what happened re the mystery. Do we need to reacquaint ourselves with it before starting season 2, so we're not confuzzled? As much as I wouldn't mind watching them again, there's so much on at the moment we're kinda short of viewing time, so if it's not necessary...

Watched 3rd episode of Fringe tonight. Mum said if Rambaldi is mentioned, we're giving up ;)

I'm amused that 2/3rds of the main cast is Australian. Anna Torv could play Poppy Montgomery's twin. And I'm starting to find Joshua Jackson attractive...

So excited!

Ezydvd has Phoenix season 1 up on their coming soon page. Out 2 October.

I have been waiting so long for this to come out on dvd, there had been indications a few years ago that it wouldn't be released at all. I have all the episodes on tape except the bloody first one. And hopefully it might mean Janus coming out as well.

I like the description Ezy has:

Based on a true story, this Australian series conveys how complicated, frustrating and how slow the process of solving a murder can be. As an added bonus, it features one of the best depictions of real scientists ever put on television - a husband-and-wife team of forensic experts who manage to retain their integrity as scientists despite the political demands of the job.

Oh, I loved Goose and Carol. And I had a little thing for Megan/Laz.

Truly one of the best drama series I've ever seen.

The XF ep, "Ice", still creeps me out. And Felicity Huffman! It's always fun people spotting while watching older shows.

This week's SVU ep, "Infiltrated", was really good. And the following made us laugh:
Munch: (about Olivia) 'Word in the conspiracy mill is she's out having my love child.'
Dann Florek smirked and quickly covered it.

And I never thought it would happen, but the season 2 finale of CSI:NY made me go and seek out m/m... And yet there seems to be barely any Flack/Mac stories. I'm also seeking Flack/Stella. And Flack/just about anyone. Hot!Detective.

Actually I really want icons of Det Flack and Det Scanlon (Medium), or an animated icon of them both with 'Hot!Detective'. Doesn't seem to be many CSI:NY or Medium icons around at all :(

Sister flew up to Alice Springs today for an international astronomy conference (she had to produce a poster, and she had results to put on it! She found 3 new masers). She comes back next Sunday. Staying at a 4.5 star resort/hotel. And she's going out to Uluru on Saturday (the conference ends Friday). Never realised that Uluru is so far from the Alice, about 4.5 hour drive. I'd love to visit that area, the landscape is amazing.

But everything was conspiring against the laundry being ready for her to take away. Friday night, partway into the first load, the washing machine died. Luckily dad managed to buy a new agitator and fix it, so the washing got done Saturday. But Saturday morning, sister put her elbow in her cereal bowl and milk went over shorts and top. So they had to be washed and dried as well. And then another pair of her shorts got pooped on by a bird while on the clothesline.

Was sad to hear last night about the death of John Inman. I did love Are you being served? growing up. Mr Humphries's love of measuring the inside leg, and Mrs Slocombe's pussy.

And this brought an added tear to my eye:
In December 2005 he and his partner of 35 years, Ron Lynch, took part in a civil partnership ceremony at London's Westminster Register Office.

I'm glad he lived long enough to be able to have his great love legally recognised.

And just reading a tribute by his co-star Wendy Richards:
The real Mr Grace, from Australia's Grace Brothers store, even gave John his own staff key!
