Our houses just aren't built for the cold. Interestingly my best friend has lived in Zurich for the last decade, and she finds winters in Sydney harder to deal with than Zurich. Probably partly because of the building design, but she said that winter tends to be still in Zurich, whereas we can get winds off the Southern Ocean.
