krazykitkat: (ouch (Stitch))
Nerve pain is the worst ever.

Bit over an hour ago had this awful shooting nerve pain in the end of my finger. Felt like I was getting zapped or a needle shoved in my finger. I cried. Dad moved my shoulder and neck and it eased off, but still a bit of occasional tingling. Took a digesic which should help muscles/joints relax overnight, in case I've got a nerve caught somewhere.

It's raining. And supposed to rain or shower for the next week. A beautiful sound.

Charmaine Dragun, channel 10 news Perth anchor and semiregular national newsreader on the late news, was found dead at The Gap (cliff on Sydney Harbour notorious for jumpers) today. Suspected suicide. Only 29. You never know what's going on beneath.

Former federal MP Peter Andren has died after a battle with inoperable cancer.

Mr Andren died this morning, ABC radio is reporting.

The independent member for the central NSW seat of Calare left parliament last month.

Mr Andren was planning to step down from the lower house seat he had held since 1996 and contest a spot in the Senate, but withdrew after being diagnosed with inoperable cancer earlier this year.

Mr Andren, who was born in 1946 in Gulargambone, NSW, worked for a few years as a school teacher before moving into journalism.

He worked as a news producer for the Seven and Nine networks in Sydney before moving in 1977 to the central west of NSW to become the news editor, in both radio and television, for 2GZ and Prime Television respectively, according to his personal website.

Mr Andren decided to contest the 1996 election as an independent, campaigning for retention of government services in the bush, especially banking, health and telecommunications.

He was returned three times as the member for Calare and was outspoken on issues such as MPs' entitlements, asylum seekers, the war on Iraq, a better deal for rural electorates and his defence of public ownership of Telstra and other publicly owned infrastructure.

I'm so sad about this. He was a great man, and the type of politician all should aim to be. A man of principle and heart, who wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed was right. And he proved that going against the 'mainstream' opinion and explaining why, worked. In the middle of all the asylum seeker stupidity, he set out why he believed asylum seekers should be accepted, and his vote increased in a regional seat.

I'd been so looking forward to voting for him in the senate before he had to withdraw.
