krazykitkat: (weather)
The other Amazon parcel arrived today. I have Picket Fences dvds! And they all look so damn young on the packaging. (and I'm reminded my girl crushes go way back - I had quite a thing for Lauren Holly)

Colossal rainfalls in southeast Queensland.

Senior forecaster Jeff Callaghan said the current low pressure system over south-east Queensland was a freak event, not seen since the 1800s.

Such events usually occurred in late autumn or early winter, he said.

"They are very rare in August and the last one we can find was probably in the 1880s," Mr Callaghan told ABC radio.

"We know they happen now but we haven't in the past had any of these events in August or September."

The low has set a new rainfall record at Rainbow Beach, near Gympie, where 713mm had fallen in the 24 hours to 9am (AEST) today.

Weather bureau climate records meteorologist Claire Webb said the "amazing" rainfall was more than three times the previous total of 216mm for the whole month of August set in 1998.

And at Tewantin, near Noosa, 310mm fell to 9am today - more than four times the previous record daily total of 72.2mm set on August 19, 1989.

713mm is just over 28 inches. That is more than Melbourne's average annual rainfall. And in the last 15 hours, Rainbow Beach has had another 116mm (~4.5 inches).

Had bad indigestion last night. Was worried that it might be the grape seed extract tablet. But more likely/hoping it was the bernaise sauce. Only got a little bit of indigestion tonight. Probably won't know for sure for a few days.
