Not supposed to be as bad as last week, but the ground is so wet and some areas are still experiencing elevated water levels. But more good falls over the dam catchment would be fabulous as it should be pure runoff. The dams have gone up by 2.3% over the past week to 39.2%. They should continue to go up over the next few weeks.

NSW SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
Locally Damaging Winds, Flash Flooding, Abnormally High Tides/Damaging Surf
For people in
Hunter, Illawarra, Metropolitan

Issued at 9:25 pm on Friday 15 June 2007

Synoptic Situation: 9:00 pm EST Friday
A low pressure system is likely to develop near the Hunter coast overnight, then move slowly away during Saturday.

Damaging winds over 65 km/h are expected to develop by the early hours of Saturday morning about coastal parts of the Illawarra, Sydney and southern Hunter. Peak wind gusts are expected to exceed 90 km/h. Damaging winds may extend to northern parts of the Hunter coast during Saturday as winds slowly ease further south.

Very heavy rain is expected to develop this evening, then persist overnight and much of Saturday causing localised flash flooding.

Damaging surf conditions will develop overnight and continue on Saturday, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, producing significant beach erosion between Wollongong and Newcastle. Water levels above the highest astronomical tide of the year are possible.
Emergency services advise you to keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors.

Emergency services advise you don't walk, ride your bicycle or drive through flood water, and keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

Emergency services advise you check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary, raise goods and electrical items.

Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.

Looks like we're through the other side, relatively unscathed.

Though I don't think poor [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch thinks so, she had an awful flight into Sydney this morning that involved holding patterns, getting hit by lightning, and throwing up.

We lost power just before midday as we were getting out of bed. Cooked our toast over the gas camping stove. Was out for about 2 hours.

Good rainfall, just over 50mm (2 inches) up my way. From the SMH:

Central Sydney recorded 90mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am today, taking the city's rain total for the month to a record breaking 352mm.

"It's the wettest month in Sydney since 2001 and the wettest June in Sydney since 1975,'' Mr Webb said.

"Contrast that to our total of 9.8mm for the entire month of May ... another two millimetres would probably get us to the wettest June since 1964.

"It's pretty strange weather. It has been profound.''

That's about 14 inches so far this month for Sydney city.
