krazykitkat: (voice of doom (philadelphia story))
The tv saga continues...

Dad took the two blown-up Magnavox tvs back to KMart Wednesday and got his money back. Yesterday mum and dad went looking over Macquarie Centre, found a 66cm wide/flat screen Sanyo that looked promising (though more expensive). My brother had a look at it at Big W the other side of Sydmey and thought it was okay (having worked for Dick Smith Electronics, he knows a bit about them). I did a search on the net last night, couldn't find any complaints about them and in fact that tv had been recommended in two articles in the SMH as one of the best (and most value for money) widescreen CRT tvs over the last 18 months.

Mum and dad decided to get two (had been leaning to just one (to replace our tv that's been acting up for months) because of the price}, but decided it was too good to pass up (plus dad really wants a new tv). Big W at Mac Centre only had 1. Found another one at Winston Hills. Had to locate a station wagon to pick them up. Over a 2 hour round trip. And one was $30 cheaper than the other.

Success!

Taking the first tv out of the box...the top corner of the tv casing around the screen is shattered. Looks like it was dropped at the factory. And of course it's the one from Winston Hills which is further away. Set up second one, it seems quite good. Found out why one was cheaper than the other...wrong code entered into the register.

So - tomorrow call Winston Hills and sort out the broken one. And Monday, take the incorrect receipt back to Mac Centre and get them to fix it as we need it for a valid warranty. My brother said that we shouldn't have to pay the extra $30 and fight them if they ask for it.

And after midnight my brother called - his roof is leaking.

Since Christmas - major sewer line fixing costing $2000, vacuum cleaner blew up requiring new one, window roller shutter tape broke - dad managed to get tape and fix himself, house alarm kinda blew up and went off, now the tv saga...

Is there any interest in a rundown on the Tony Head con?
