May. 31st, 2006 01:26 pmSaw rheumatologist yesterday. He's finally happy with my iron levels and my haemoglobin levels are excellent. So no iron injections and I assume I'm no longer classed as anaemic. Looks like it was a stomach bleed caused by the aspirin.
Still tired though. It may be partly stress/depression related. But he's trying me on a new medication, Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine sulfate). It's actually an old malarial drug, but for some reason they're not sure of, it can help in various rheumatic diseases, including arthritis and lupus. He said it is known to help with energy levels, plus joint pain, and has the added advantage of being a slight anticoagulant, which might help with my circulation since I can't take the aspirin anymore.
But had possible side effect this morning, ( a little tmi ) So didn't go into work today, too risky. Turns out M, who was supposed to be showing me what I'm doing in the new job, is away sick too, so feel a little less guilty.
He's also happy so far with my fingers and toes circulation wise. I've got a few little chilblain lumps on my fingers, but they're not getting worse and my toes are surprisingly good. Next appointment is October, unless I have major chilblain or vasculitis (I'm always slightly amused when it's mentioned on House, though it scared me when they thought it was in the brain in one episode--it's bad enough in the fingers) problems, then I call for an emergency appointment (the last time I did that he told me to come straight down to his office).
