Blowing a gale here. Woke up for some reason just after 9.30am, heard parents saying we'd lost power and they'd heard a snap. I was able to turn my light on. We've lost one phase, but since we have 3 phase power, some things are working and we can eat. Lost the fridge/freezer circuit and the new rooms and half the rumpus room (which includes my computer).
The reason...Just across the road, the next house down, a very large gum tree is resting on the lines and across the road. It's snapped at the base. One of the power lines up from it snapped and is lying, live, on the road outside our place. Our neighbour, who's an electrician and licenced linesman, has since partly moved it to the side of the road. There's a police car at the top of the street blocking it. The SES has come and gone because they can't do anything until Energy Australia come out. We're still waiting 3 hours later and the SES were told it may not be till tonight, there's lines and trees down everywhere up our way. The lines are sagging further and the poles are starting to bend.
Only good thing is that mum has wanted that tree gone for a while. She was concerned about it in terms of bushfires.
Photos here.
