odds and ends

Was watching the story on the DNC on the late news last night and mum said, "The two Johns. Are they anything like the two Ronnies?"
*not sure how many of the USers know the Two Ronnies*

***

As soon as you turn on the radio/stereo/tv, CJ starts whistling and chattering away.
And they love corn on the cob.

Where the fuck do all these fanfic authors (I shudder to use that expression in relation to them) get the idea that Jed desperately wanted/wants a son?
And as for the trainwreck from that idiot that I've had run-ins with...her characters are unrecognisable, the storyline is so far off the rails...and yet she has others praising her and wanting more?
It eludes me.

I was wondering whether I should have friends locked this post ;)
But that story of hers is horrific. And yet she has the hide to flame people over one wrongly spelt word or their opinion.
I don't recall one instance of the show where there's even been a hint that Jed desperately wanted a son.

[identity profile] spectralsoul.livejournal.com 2004-07-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always got the impression that Jed is perfectly happy with Abbey and the three daughters and wouldn't have it any other way.

lock it if you want, but your not the only one that has had a run in with her.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-29 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be big and brave :)
And it's a bit of a relief I'm not the only one. Does she go around purposely trying to annoy people?
I'm calmer about her now...I think. Was to the point just seeing her name sparked panic attacks.

And yes. But I guess they buy into the society stereotyping that a man has to want a son.
Bleh.

I think she is just soooo far up her self! I am so disappointed that she moderates the yahoo list for my favourite pairing. I wanted to upload screencaps there, but she made it so only her and the moderators had access to the photos section.

I can't believe that someone with such poor writing skills can have the gall to start up a fanfiction list and then discourage other activities unrelated to writing.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Many sympathies.
I only lurk on that group and been close to bailing several times (I left the CJ/Simon list because of her).
And most of the fanfic lists encourage screencaps/other news etc.

[identity profile] spectralsoul.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Thankfully, she is not the moderator on the CJ/Simon list.

I've been thinking for some time now that I should unsubscribe from many of my lists. As someone who doesn't write very much there doesn't seem to be a place for me on fanfic lists and much of the fiction that is posted isn't worth the read. I'm afraid, yahoo has become the place for the novice to post.

I think it is active discussion, the regular posting of items of interest such as photos and news that keep a yahoo group going strong. Just look at the CJ/Toby group.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
That didn't stop her from attacking me several times there.
I never particularly liked that list, very few good stories/writers after the initial burst of activity.

[identity profile] sweetly-savage.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
That still pisses me off. The attacking thing. I'm quite certain it stems from jealousy. You really have a talent, honey. Unfortunately not everyone is adult enough to handle it well.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I don't whether it was about that, or because I had the audacity to call her on her childish behaviour (flaming, yelling at the spammers even though she admitted that she knew they weren't there to listen (then why the fuck yell at them to just give us another idiot to yell at)).
She's apparently in her early 20s, acts more like a 10 year old.
I'v managed to keep under the radar on the CJ/Ron list, but I do definitely keep thinking I should leave it.

I just sent you an email to your LJ email address. I have no idea how to access the LJ email - never received one to my knowledge. ; ) So, I hope you get it.

[identity profile] spectralsoul.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how to access LJ email either. I havn't recieved it, so could you please resend it to sheridens@ihug.com.au. In the meanwhile I shall investigate LJ email.

[identity profile] writerpuppy.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
When you get your paid account, you set it up to forward to an existing account. I send it to my phone LOL.

[identity profile] spectralsoul.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
According to the FAQ it should be automatically forwarded to the email address I supplied. But it doesn't seem to be working.

[identity profile] writerpuppy.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
He was asked, once. Somebody had written a book alleging, among other things, that he wore special underwear in an effort to conceive a male child, and poor C.J. had to ask him about it. He denied it, of course.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that stupid book with all the mistakes?

I just don't see him thinking he missed out on anything. And as for these stories which has Abbey deciding he wants a son and asking CJ to have it...that's so not Abbey. If Jed ever complained about not having a son she'd be more likely to tell him to grow up and be thankful for what he has got.
They have no feeling for the characters.

[identity profile] writerpuppy.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't seen that one, but it's a particularly weird concept given C.J.'s age and Abbey's profession. She'd know better.

Mallory, maybe, or possibly Zoey.

Now see what you've done?
*drowns misshappen plot bunnies and buries them DEEP*

As for the president, I can almost see justification, in that he's pretty much adopted Josh and Charlie (as well as C.J., which works against the theory). I don't think he'd ever admit it, though, and he certainly wouldn't do anything to make it public knowledge.

I'm reading a piece now where an illegitimate son of Jed's, conceived before his marriage and born without his knowledge, shows up and causes Abbie all sorts of angst along these lines. It doesn't require too much suspension of disbelief.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Bury them very deep!

It stands to reason his staff would be like his kids, and they're mostly male. That's just the reality.

I just loathe the whole 'He must want a son' idea. It's so stereotyped, up there with every woman wants a baby.
ANd the added problem is that the majority of people who try to write these storylines can't write. Only a very precious few would be able to pull them off.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
And actually thinking about the relationships more...Josh is more Leo's son.
CJ and Charlie are the only ones Jed really treats as his kids.

[identity profile] writerpuppy.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
This is very true.

But in Two Cathedrals, he actually said it: "That was my son! What did I ever do to yours?"

Should I capitalize some of that? Dunno; not religious.

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Not religious either...
I guess i see a difference between treating them as his sons/daughters and "wanting" a biological son.

[identity profile] writerpuppy.livejournal.com 2004-08-01 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I see the difference, too, but I think there's room to explore it as a what-if, although I agree that I haven't seen a really good treatment of the theme.

[identity profile] soft-lite.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so this wasn't on a list I'm on, so which list are we talking about?

[identity profile] krazykitkat.livejournal.com 2004-07-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
a cj-jed list. The only reason I've been there is there's been some non-romantic fic. The romantic stuff doesn't work for me.
