(no subject)

I've been thinking about getting Windows 7. I'm still back on windows 2000, and I don't mind, except a lot of programs like my anti-virus, firewall etc can no longer update.

And I've heard good things about Windows 7, and while my computer is a few years old, it seems to have the minimum requirements (1gb ram, ~1.6GHz processor). But the price for the full home version is still a bit steep ~$290.

But a local computer store has the full home premium version for $119! Which is cheaper than most shops for the upgrade version. (or might it be an oem version?)

I'm not sure whether to take the plunge or not... Are people happy with windows 7?

7 runs so much better on a new machine. Yours is very old and I don't think you'd even get any use out of it. It says it will run but it will be a very base version.

If you can afford a new pc with 7 preinstalled I would suggest you do that.

We build our computers, much cheaper. I can't justify upgrading the computer, especially since it works fine for my needs.

Funny thing is that a lot of the smaller laptops available have the same ram and processor as my computer, and they're coming preinstalled with windows 7.

Would I be better off just upgrading to xp?

I don't think you can upgrade to XP bc they aren't making them - at least here they arent. Try 7 but make sure you can return if you need to.

I have access to XP. (it does have its own slight issues if you get my drift)

What do you think would be the needed system to run Windows 7?

I really don't know. I'm only looking at getting a new laptop so it'll work find with that.

As for old systems all the blogs recommend that if you have anything less than XP you should just get a new pc because it can't run 7. That's as much as I know.

My computer won't have any trouble running XP, it's just that I couldn't be bothered upgrading. I just find the whole thing annoying having to reinstall all my programs, so i don't do it ;) Took me ages to upgrade from win 98 to 2000 on my old computer, was only when too many things wouldn't work.
