Had a bit of a scare when the birds were out for their run this arvo.
Eddie's never going to be a graceful flyer and tends to tire easily and have some trouble steering. For some unknown reason she flew into one of the pictures hanging in the kitchen and then veered right towards the corner of the room, where the freezer is. I was trying to rush to her, but wasn't quick enough, and she ran into another picture beneath the tv (the tv in the kitchen is up on a little shelf built relatively high on the wall in the corner) and fell down...between the wall and the freezer.
My brain was already thinking how the hell are we going to move the freezer without squashing her (later on dad suggested the vacuum cleaner ;)), but when I got there I saw little claws latched onto the lid hinges and was able to pull her up. She even allowed me to hold her for a couple of minutes without biting me.
When she's had enough out time, she climbs down the front of the cage and in (the top of the cage is their home base). CJ flies in himself, though sometimes you need to herd him.
CJ's been a happy and very noisy little bird since the vet visit.
Eddie is such an idiot. Real little acrobat, always climbing, pulling the swings together or off, hanging upside down...budgies/parrots are such clowns. I remember reading of someone observing galahs flying into willy willies (small rotating dust storms) and being thrown out the other side squawking...and then they'd fly back in again.
