I survived work yesterday. Still worked about half an hour over my shift, and didn't get everything up to date, and there's probably something major I've forgotten, but it was a reasonable day and I didn't break. And choccies from my manager and another co-worker, and a gorgeous budgie coffee mug from a friend in another department which made my day. And a household called into helpline and asked them to thank me for making sure she got the gift she ordered before Christmas (that was one of the dramas driving me nuts earlier in the week).

So a month off...

And I need to try and not have great expectations, because that way failure lies. Just relax and destress and sleep, and watch plenty of dvds, and start a jigsaw puzzle. Best friend/hubby/kidlets (from Switzerland) for lunch on Tuesday, followed by a massage.

Watched the 3rd ep of the current season of SVU tonight. Mum pointed out that Diane Neal looked like she was pregnant. But can't find anything on it, and since that would have been filmed late last year...

Is there any Casey/Elliott fic around? I really like their scenes together. Must look for Casey fic too, I so wish I could have done something with the tiny Casey(/Olivia) I started a lifetime ago.

*

Two rotten pit bull terriers attacked a bloke (who was badly mauled and had to take refuge in the back of a ute), then ripped 3 little bunnies from their cages and tore them apart, and then one of the pit bulls went at a cop, so he shot it.

The little bunnies break my heart, brings back sadness. When I was about 4, my beautiful sweet bunny was ripped out of her cage and killed by an afghan hound and another dog. I have this memory of our next door neighbour, Bronnie, cuddling me and watching my baby brother, while mum buried my bunny.

*

I'm adoring Heroes. It's hard to try to remain unspoiled (I'm sticking with the Oz broadcasts).

The tv saga continues...

Dad took the two blown-up Magnavox tvs back to KMart Wednesday and got his money back. Yesterday mum and dad went looking over Macquarie Centre, found a 66cm wide/flat screen Sanyo that looked promising (though more expensive). My brother had a look at it at Big W the other side of Sydmey and thought it was okay (having worked for Dick Smith Electronics, he knows a bit about them). I did a search on the net last night, couldn't find any complaints about them and in fact that tv had been recommended in two articles in the SMH as one of the best (and most value for money) widescreen CRT tvs over the last 18 months.

Mum and dad decided to get two (had been leaning to just one (to replace our tv that's been acting up for months) because of the price}, but decided it was too good to pass up (plus dad really wants a new tv). Big W at Mac Centre only had 1. Found another one at Winston Hills. Had to locate a station wagon to pick them up. Over a 2 hour round trip. And one was $30 cheaper than the other.

Success!

Taking the first tv out of the box...the top corner of the tv casing around the screen is shattered. Looks like it was dropped at the factory. And of course it's the one from Winston Hills which is further away. Set up second one, it seems quite good. Found out why one was cheaper than the other...wrong code entered into the register.

So - tomorrow call Winston Hills and sort out the broken one. And Monday, take the incorrect receipt back to Mac Centre and get them to fix it as we need it for a valid warranty. My brother said that we shouldn't have to pay the extra $30 and fight them if they ask for it.

And after midnight my brother called - his roof is leaking.

Since Christmas - major sewer line fixing costing $2000, vacuum cleaner blew up requiring new one, window roller shutter tape broke - dad managed to get tape and fix himself, house alarm kinda blew up and went off, now the tv saga...

Is there any interest in a rundown on the Tony Head con?

[livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch asked me the following, and I apologise for the suckiness of the answers in advance.

1. What was your favourite story as a child?

Assuming novels count, The Ordinary Princess by M. M. Kaye.

Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the fourteenth assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace. And there . . . much to everyone's surprise . . . she meets a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is.

I still have my copy, and when Lara's old enough, I will buy it for her.

2. Is there a character on a television show you like (or don't like) that you think resembles you, or has similar traits?

Ummmm...maybe you should ask my sister that one.

As much as I wish I was as cool as CJ or Miss Parker...I can see traces of Paris, Rory in the early years, Monica (Friends - which really scares me), Willow...I'm really not sure. My brain's not functioning.

Though I think my family would agree that I most resemble Lucy from Peanuts.

3. Do you have bizarre food cravings? Or just normal ones (like chocolate)? what are they?

I'm not a bizarre food eater. Chocolate definitely. Though I think most my cravings tend towards the savoury - savoury biscuits, burger rings, toobs. Also cheese.

4. What are your three best qualities?

Loyal, responsible, trustworthy. I sound like a golden retriever.

5. If you were to write a fan letter right now, who would it be to and what would it say (summarise)?

Since I saw him on Saturday and was so blown away - Anthony Stewart Head.

You are the most amazingly down to earth, laid back, lovely, normal "celebrity" I've ever met in my con-going years. Maybe it's because you're British. And even though you are only 8 years younger than my father (and 2.5 times that older than me), my crush on you has grown exponentially. And thank you for singing Anthem, I'm taking that one as a personal shout out.

If you'd like some questions as sucky as my answers:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate!
3. You will update your lj with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

In a bid to try and find good things and use them to help prop me up...

1. I made it to work today. It was bloody difficult with quite the panic attack during the car trip, but I made it and finished things. And hence there will be money.

2. Dinner was lovely. Home-made hamburgers - cheese, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, pineapple, prime quality mince, onion. And last night was lovely too - ham, chips, and salad. And just had my midnight snack of a slice of coffee and walnut cake. They need to make a perfume of the smell, I sniff the cake.

3. I enjoyed Heroes much more than I expected, especially since I'm not a fan of super heroes or comic books.

4. Medium was back tonight, and SVU and CI are back tomorrow.

5. I'm smitten with Lara Kate. Can't get enough of her. She's vocalising and taking notice of things around her. And she's starting to interact, we were playing with my plush duck with her and she kept trying to suck its beak. Plus she's just so damn gorgeous. I put on her little jeans after she'd been changed, and put one arm in her little cardigan. And apparently she loves the plush bright yellow cow I gave her last week, K says she goes nuts when she sees it.

The problem with haircuts is that you don't know it's being cut too short until it's too late (especially when they start at the back). It's not awful, but it could do with being another centimetre or two longer. Hopefully it'll look better in a couple of weeks. And it's much lighter and cooler.

Isobel is the first tropical cyclone of our season (off the NW coast of WA).

On the very slim chance that anyone's interested, my tropical cyclone seasonal forecast is here.

*

Totally dead. Had to get up at 7am because the plumber was coming. So got into the cleaning early, by lunchtime it felt like I'd done a full day's work. The rumpus room floor is now clear for the first time in a couple of years and we can get into the cupboards without moving my junk. And the cupboard opposite is lovely and neat. Still have to clean this cupboard/desk, but that will be a slower job.

Aching, hurting and tired. I kept falling asleep in the bath, at one stage with the washer and soap in my hand.

Looks like we finally figured out places to put extra cd/dvd storage units. The situation is a little dire...I did a rough count of my cd collection and was a little disturbed...but I think my dvd collection is worse.

I just don't get New Years. It's just another night and it's not as though something miraculous is going to occur because we start a new year. Everything will be the same tomorrow.

And, yes, I'm a killjoy, but personally I think the amount spent on fireworks is ridiculous. It's essentially just burning money.

Thank you to everyone who helped explain the mid-term elections and term lengths to me. I have knowledge! Still weirded out by the two year Congress terms. While the initial reasons for it do sound perfectly reasonable, it seems like a bit of a waste of money, time and effort now.

Tax cheque arrived today, I calculated it to the cent. It's all going to my parents.

A cup of coffee at lunch makes me jittery for the rest of the afternoon. For breakfast I have a cup of instant coffee (milk-based). Doesn't do anything for me, doesn't even really wake me up. Had a cup of the same for lunch - because I've had the jitters a couple of times I made sure it was a flat teaspoon of the coffee. Jittery again this arvo. Yet I can drink coke no problems. It's a pain, every so often I like a cup of coffee for lunch. I must have very low tolerance levels.

My very first nephew/niece is due in 12 days. And I'll be meeting my honourary nephew for the first time soon, my best friend and hubby and bubby are coming out for Christmas (they live in Zurich). He'll be 5 months old, becoming his own little person.

I really have nothing worthwhile to say.
