I could really do without the heart-pounding shit-where-the-hell-is-my-debit-card?!?! moment. Thankfully, after some mad brain scrambling, I remembered it was in my desk (waiting for the new expiry date to be updated on amazon & paypal), and Mother was on hand to bail me out.

JB Hi-fi has some great 'buy 2, get 1 free' tv box set deals. I got the first 2 seasons of Criminal Minds, plus s2-4 of Golden Girls. Mum got s1-5 of NCIS and s1-3 of Supernatural.

Then it was trying to figure out the last 2 box sets. I either had all the seasons available (or the latest season which I don't have wasn't included in the sale), or I wasn't interested in the show. Or like Alias, I liked the show, but I couldn't put up with bloody Rambaldi and his red ball again. So it came down to Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice or Battlestar Galactica. I couldn't remember what seasons of GA I preferred (apart from the current season), so I ended up going with s1 & 2 of BSG. If I don't like it, I'll throw them at my brother and you lot ;)

*

Finally picked up my Bookkeeping certificate. It's quite nice looking, though not sure if it'll ever be put to use.

*

Finish work next Tuesday, then off for 2.5 weeks. I really need the break, so bloody tired. Not much planned - brother's medieval festival, "An Evening with Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone", and probably into Sydney another day. And hopefully lots of tv.

This was all over the news last night, and I laughed at each replay. Just like a cartoon! Go to here to see the video (hopefully!) and full story.

It was less than a Great Escape.

Two New Zealand prisoners who were handcuffed together as they fled a courthouse foiled their own getaway when they ran to opposite sides of a light pole, slammed into each other and fell to the ground.

Jailers nabbed them as they struggled to their feet.

Their escapade yesterday was captured by a CCTV camera at Hastings District Court on New Zealand's North Island. The footage shows the two men trying to make a break for it - but apparently forgetting they were joined at the wrist.

I have things I should post about it, and photos of Lara and Liam, and maybe even a fic to post if I can find the courage. But I'm really lazy and can't even find the enthusiasm to give Yuletide feedback. I'm terrible.

*

Sister-in-law called late this arvo, asking mum to go round and bath Lara. Brother was at work, and Liam is really windy and screams if put down. The other possibility was to hold Liam. And mum heard a little voice in the background, "Kasey bath Lara, mumma hold Liam." The princess had spoken :)

As it turned out Liam was perfectly behaved ;) But Lara got bathed by her Kasey.

Am considering replacing my old 13 inch CRT computer monitor (though it means I lose all the stickers on it :(, yes I'm twelve).

Can get a cheaper second-hand (came out of a bank) LCD monitor. 17 or 19 inch. Anyone think one size is better than the other? My current screen resolution is 1024x768, if that makes any difference.

Last Saturday was the coldest September day in 30-odd years - 13C (55F).

This Saturday was the equal hottest day of the year - 32C (90F).

Bloody ridiculous. Going to be a warm night

*

Council election voting across NSW today. Such fun. *eye roll* At least it looks like we've kept our Green.

*

I've started making phone calls to our households at work. Not many, but more than enough. I hate phones with a passion, it's a definite anxiety trigger.

I told [livejournal.com profile] vanwasigma last week, she was thrilled and thought it was great that I'd taken the (forced) step. D, one of the recruiters, said she'd heard me on the phone and I was great, and she was proud of me :) And on Friday one of the helpline girls said I had a great phone manner.

I've never been sure how I am on the phone, so that makes me feel better that maybe I'm doing the right thing.

*

Phantom in 14 hours. Final performance in Sydney. We might even see Ana Marina, who actually does exist - sister's friend had a confirmed sighting the other week. We'd been wondering.

Oh, internets! Do not forsake me again. Have to call bigpond in morning and tell them they don't have to come out now. Must be a line problem somewhere around here, this isn't the first time it's gone down for a number of hours for no known reason. I was beginning to wonder what I'd do tonight without you all.

*

Counselling is a whole lot cheaper now. I was paying $90 per session, session every two weeks. Essentially 20% of my monthly wage. But the counsellor suggested I see my GP about getting on one of the plans you can get Medicare rebates through, and my GP put me in under the new Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care initiative. I get $66.05 of the $90 back. So $47.90 per month, only about 5% of my monthly wage. And I have 12 sessions with that rebate. Plus come mid June I get another 5 sessions free through my employer.

That takes a big worry off my shoulders.

From the SMH:

A middle-aged New Zealand woman rang police to report a theft of cannabis plants she had been growing in buckets at her North Island home, local media reported today.

The crying woman told a constable at the police station in the city of Napier the plant theft was the fourth from her property in four years.

The woman, 45, lamented someone had again sneaked on to her property at night to steal her three carefully nurtured marijuana plants.

"I am a good person. I am sick of these low-lifes stealing my things," the unnamed woman told a police communications officer.

Senior Sergeant Mal Lochrie told local media late today the officer found it hard to stop smiling as the woman gave details of the theft over the phone.

A community constable who visited her to take details of the theft had also warned her that her horticultural pursuits could have legal consequences, Snr Sgt Lochrie said.

Police had decided no action would be taken against the gardener, he said.

Do not buy Magnavox tvs.

We bought two 66cm wide/flatscreen tvs from KMart...took some running around to get them since the store didn't have any. Got them today, set them up...one died within an hour - picture got darker and then disappeared with accompanying electrical smell. An hour or so later, the other died.

Taking them back tomorrow, demanding refund. Will be lodging a complaint with Magnavox, and also with Coles Myer asking why they stock such shit. I found a post on usenet which said they have a return rate of about 50%.

*

About to send off my medical certificate for ineligiblity for jury duty. Confused.

It says:
If you are not claiming exemption or changing your personal details do not return this form.

ONLY COMPLETE THIS SECTION IF YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS

If you are returning this form, please complete the information below:

I had Toobs today. And they were delicious.

I haven't had Toobs in over 10 years (apparently they went off the market in 98, and I think it was at least a few years before that). I've missed them and often wondered what happened. And then my brother said Smith Chips had brought them back, and I saw them somewhere, and then today at work I went to the chip machine, and there they were! I squealed.

Yummy! Hope they're around for more than a limited time (though only a 35g bag), I think I'm going to be spending some money :)

*

Going to physio tomorrow. Had a twinge in my hip, threatening spasm, at work. While it's settled tonight, think it's best I get loosened up before it goes into full spasm.
